 Iguazu Falls
06-01-2008

I board an early flight from Aeroparque Buenos Aires to Iguazu falls to make most of it during my day.

Even do I decided to stay three days up there. My flight land on time but my disappointment is big when I discover that I am unable to see the falls from the plane. The airport is literally in the jungle. I haven't booked any hotel. My first task is to find one, nice enough and cheap enough to fit my budget.

In front of the shuttle bus terminal is the St. George hotel, I decide to try that. Price is fair. St George is sold as a four star hotel, which isn't, yet is a very convenient hotel with an impressive breakfast buffet and even more the dinner buffet.

I am on the argentinian side of the falls so I decide to start my visit from this side. Entering the park will cost me 40 pesos argentinos, something like 14.- USD$. There is a direct bus from the Iguazu city to the falls for a few pesos.

From the argentinian side you are on top of the falls. After entering the park you board a little train which will do severals stops to differents spot to have an incredible view of the falls.

I decide to go directly to the last stop, after disembarking a walk of 10 minutes or so on a bridge will take me on top of the Devil's throat, the largest and most impressive. The quantity of water passing every second is huge.

I come back to the last station and I board again the train to the middle stop, from there I will walk around the jungle to have a different view on the Devil's throat which will be a bit far, while the St. Martin fall will be closer to me.

Against a surcharge you can take a little boat and go under the falls or better said as closest as possible.

Generally speaking the visit of the argentinian park is easy, direction sign are clear with time to distances.

On my second day I decide to cross over to Brazil. I took another bus from the city main bus station to the border, I will clear immigration and then I will have to take another bus and change once more at the crossroad in Brazil. Make sure to get your ticket on the bus, you will avoid to pay it twice.

Immigration can be a challenge and can take more than expected, like in my case. However immigration officers were fair and kind.

On my way to the brazilian national park, I stop to visit a bird park just opposite of the main entrance.

At first I was sceptical, but after my visit I can say is definitly worth a visit. For visitors from other part of the planet is stunning to see how many birds lives in the jungle and the colors.

Its also a wake up call to realize that one day all of this could be lost forever.

I enter the brazilian park, the price is similar to the argentinian around 14.- USD$. A bus travelling around in circle made a few stops, at the same time from the speaker you can hear more about what you could see in the next stop.

I leave the bus before the Devil's throat stop, doing so I have a great view on the full extension of the falls, the world's largest after Victoria falls in Africa.

I walk down the way and I am surprised by the colors and the number of butterfly that are around me.

I finally arrive to the beginning of the Devil's throat bridge, every step I do I look around and I am amazed of the magnificent of my surrounding.

Iguazu falls is visited every year by thousands of people evry year. If you are lucky not only you will enjoy the fabulous natural view but you will also enjoy the gorgeous men walking around. There is no better way to start talking to someone with a simple "How marvellous..." or a more conventional "I am lost, HELP!". Smoking is forbidden and not an option. Everything will sound so innocent over here .....

I recommend this trip to everyone visiting Argentina or Brazil.
